Create Picks from a Work Order

Create Picks from a Work Order

Overview

GoldFinch provides the ability to pick and reserve inventory for a Work Order before it is sent to the shop floor. This ensures accurate inventory management for raw materials associated with each Work Order.

Picks vs. Movements

  • Pick Function:

    • Allows you to reserve specific raw materials against each Work Order, ensuring accurate inventory tracking.

  • Movements:

    • In some scenarios, the tight linkage between inventory and the Work Order may not be efficient, such as when:

      • There are frequent scraps.

      • The sequence of Work Orders needs to change.

In such cases, Inventory Movements may be a more efficient option. Learn more about movements Replenishing Production Input Bin.

Setup for Picking

  • Enable Picking on Work Orders:

    • Navigate to the Warehouse page and check the Enable Pick on Work Order field.

Set Up Separate Bins:

  • Set up the Input Bin with the "QC" Bin Type. You cannot pick from the Input Bin.

  • Once a Pick Ticket is posted, inventory is moved to the Input Bin for consumption.

  • Avoid moving inventory into or out of the Input Bin to maintain accuracy.

Processing Steps for Picking

Create a Pick Ticket:

  • On the Work Order, click Create Pick to generate a Pick Ticket.

Review Inventory Status

  • Check the status of available inventory. Partial picking is allowed, but only one open Pick Ticket can exist per Work Order.

Open Pick Ticket:

  • Click the Open Pick field on the Work Order to view the Pick Ticket.

Create a Production Journal:

  • You do not need to fully pick the inventory before creating a Production Journal. However, you must have enough picked inventory to cover the Consumption Qty before you can post the journal.

Post the Pick Ticket:

  • Once posted, the Pick Status on the Work Order will automatically update to Fully Picked or Partially Picked.

Create and Post Product Journals:

  • Continue with the usual process of creating and posting Production Journals.

Additional Information

  • Mass Create Pick Tickets for Sales Orders:

    • You can create multiple Work Orders for a single Sales Order. To mass-create Pick Tickets:

      • Navigate to the Sales Order page and go to the Work Order related list.

      • Select all Work Orders, then click Create Picks.

  • Print Consolidated Pick Instructions:

    • On the Pick Ticket list, you can select multiple Pick Tickets and print a consolidated Pick Instructions document. This is useful if you want to pick and reserve inventory for all Work Orders linked to a Sales Order.
